One of the more exciting uses for brushed aluminum sheet is achieved through the MetalPhoto process. This process produces photographic quality images on an aluminum substrate, so an incredibly high degree of clarity and resolution can be had. A silver halide image is developed directly onto the aluminum itself, as opposed to the image being placed on top of the aluminum – literally, the image is not on the aluminum but, rather, the aluminum is the image. This crisp and clear image can be sealed with an anodized sealant, resulting in an image so hard that it has the scratch resistant qualities of sapphire. The image can not be scratched off, resists being scratched over, and since there is no etching or raised surface resulting from the printing process, the finished product is easy to wipe clean.
