Legend plates are typically small tags attached to products that serve to impart important operating or warning information for the proper and safe use of that product. Clearly, the importance of these items can not be overstated from a product liability or risk-prevention standpoint. Properly designed and produced legend plates really only have to do two things. First, they need to convey the information they carry, which requires them to maintain visibility and legibility even if the work environment provides challenges to doing just that. Second, they need to remain affixed to the product they label, again, despite any difficulties that the work environment their product operates in provides.
At Data Graphics, we have extensive experience working with manufacturers of industrial equipment, military and aerospace parts and equipment, medical equipment, telecommunication equipment and technology equipment. For over twenty five years, we have been customer service professionals who have used their experience and product knowledge to match the perfect materials, finishes, print methods and adhesive choices to meet our customers many and varied challenges. We have many existing shapes available, or we can cut a die to custom size your order if our pre-existing shapes will not work. Our legend plates can be made to withstand extreme temperature exposure to heat or cold, severe temperature fluctuations, exposure to corrosive chemical agents and abrasives, resist the fading effects of the sun’s ultraviolet rays and just about any other abuse your product can itself handle. Simply put, our products need to be as tough and rugged, as durable and long-lasting as yours.
For this reason, some of our most popular legend plates are made of anodized aluminum. The printing is often done by engraving, but there are times when the buildup of dirt, oil or grime could collect in the grooves left by the engraving process and reduce the effective legibility of the legend plates. In instances such as these, we frequently will employ the MetalPhoto process, which involves photographically developing an image directly onto the aluminum substrate through a silver halide and then sealed. The resulting image has a hardness rating equivalent to that of sapphire, so it is very scratch resistant and no grooves leaves no place for grime to collect. The image can not be worn off of the aluminum substrate because, essentially, the image is the aluminum substrate. We offer many other solutions and your customer service professional can walk you through the options we offer to find the best solution for your product.
