Metalphoto Products From Data Graphics
When your labels, nameplates or overlays need to be able to function under the most extreme of working conditions, Metalphoto might be the answer. Basically, the Metalphoto process takes a sheet of photosensitive aluminum and develops a photographic silver halide image directly onto the surface of the aluminum. The aluminum is then coated with an anodized layer sealant with sapphire hardness. The result is a high resolution image that will last for years under the harshest conditions.
Consider the alternatives. Etching or engraving can not produce images close to the quality that the Metalphoto process can. Additionally, the etching and engraving processes both require the surface of the aluminum to be broken, which leaves the finished product with grooves or pitting that can collect dirt and grease, rapidly diminishing the product’s utility. The photographic image in the Metalphoto process, however, is not “on” or “in” the surface of the aluminum as much as it “is” the surface. There is nothing to peel away, like you have with a laminate material. The anodized layer produces a smooth surface, making cleaning easy. This protective layer can withstand extremes of heat and cold, sea spray, abrasives, corrosive chemicals and is impervious to the effects of the sun’s ultraviolet rays, so there is no fading.
The high resolution images capable with the Metalphoto process make this material an ideal choice for barcode labels for inventory control or any other application that requires small detailed type or imaging. Metalphoto labels can be much smaller than custom labels made with other materials and still convey the same information required.
This combination of rugged durabilty and graphical performance has caused Metalphoto to become the material of choice for many industrial uses. In fact, Metalphoto meets the stringent MIL STD 130N specifications required for Department of Defense UID barcoding labels. If you are a military contractor, our helpful and knowledgeable sales representatives can tell you more about the specific military standards for nameplates and labels.
