When people come to us for help with tamper proof labels, there are two different types of labels they tend to be looking at securing. The first is for labels that resist tampering and the second is for labels that discourage tampering with their product by making it impossible to do so without detection. We offer labels that are sturdy and resistant to tampering. Many of our customers are military contractors and need to be in compliance with United States Department of Defense regulations regarding the unique identification designation (UID) labels that must be affixed to all DoD property no matter where it is used, housed or stored. These UID labels must be made durable enough to withstand both the extremes of the working environments their products will be used in and must not be easily removed or rendered illegible. One solution we use at Data Graphics is an aluminum label made using the Metalphoto process. Metalphoto transfers a photographic image by way of a silver halide 
directly onto the aluminum substrate. In this way, the photographic image is not merely “on” the surface, but “is” the surface. This surface is then sealed, leaving an image that is crisp, detailed and resistant to scratches to a sapphire hardness on the Mohs scale. Bolted on, these custom labels are virtually tamper proof. Labels produced in this way can be custom made to meet your product’s needs.
Sometimes the tamper proof labels desired are intended to discourage unauthorized tampering with the inner workings of a product, such as a computer or machine under product warranty. If such tampering will render the warranty null and void, it is clearly important from a dollars and cents standpoint to be able to detect any tampering. We at Data Graphics offer tamper proof labels that can be affixed over an opening in the product’s exterior that, if removed, will be unable to be reattached. Additionally, the word “void” will be left where the sticker had been applied. If your customers know that tampering will be detected and void their warranty, they are less apt to try it.
