Is your product in need of UID marking labels? Contractors supplying products to the United States Department of Defense are required by the stringent MIL-STD 130 specifications to provide a unique identification designation, or UID, for DoD property, even if such property will be housed at a facility not owned by the government. UID marking is used to ease inventory record keeping and to more effectively utilize the Department of Defense’s assets by curtailing losses by theft and misplacement. UID marking typically takes the form of barcodes that are easily scanned by computers to accurately log the locations, service records, users and other pertinent bits of information applicable to individual pieces of DoD property.
Data Graphics, an industry leader in the production and delivery of UID marking labels and wide variety of other products (such as graphic overlays, name plates, placards, and decals), has had extensive experience complying with MIL-STD 130 specifications and the standards of other industry requirements (we have received certifications of compliance from UL, the European Union’s RoHS 2002/95/EC directive, AS9100 revision B, and ISO9100:2008) in its 25 years in business. Our 25,000 square foot production facility houses our full service art department and cutting-edge production equipment, which results in faster, more efficient service. From this plant in Mount Dora, Florida, a suburb of Orlando, we typically offer a turnaround on your order from seven to ten days after you have inspected and approved our photoproof. We have the capacity to manufacture UID marking labels and other products out of many different materials, such as vinyl, polycarbonate, polyester and anodized aluminum. No order is too large or too small.
Because UID marking must be highly legible, many times the best option is the MetalPhoto process. This process involves using a silver halide to actually develop the needed image directly onto an anodized aluminum substrate. This aluminum label is then sealed, leaving the surface with a sapphire hardness that is extremely resistant to scratching. The result is a unique identification designation label that is long-lasting and will remain legible even if put to use in a challenging working environment with exposure to corrosive and abrasive elements or repeated shocks. The image is not so much on the substrate as it is the substrate, which means that there is no image to be scratched off, as is often the case with screened on images. MetalPhoto is also superior to engraving, since the resulting surface is smooth and does not offer grooves into which grease and dirt can collect, impairing legibility.
