Why Choose Us?
Why Choose Data Graphics as Your Roll Label Printer?
1- Award Winning Quality:
If one thing sets us apart from other printers, it is quality. We are proud to be perhaps the most highly decorated custom roll label printer in America. There aren’t many custom roll label printers in America who are certified as UL, ISO9001: 2008, RoHS, AS9100, Metalphoto ® and ITAR compliant. Every working day we manufacture pre-printed labels on a roll that meet MIL-STD 130, UL 969, PGDQ2, and ASTM B209-10 quality standards. Our print jobs face incredible scrutiny from our clients, including the nation’s largest OEM manufacturers, and even the US military. Our printing standards are so high, however, that we average 99% approved order rates.
2- Fast Delivery of Your Roll of Labels:
Your pre-printed roll of labels can’t come any faster than we can get it to you. We may be the fastest 1-4 color roll label printer in America. Please call us at 800-639-4316 and see for yourself just how fast and responsive we really are. We are the market leader in custom printing, with turn-around times of just 2-10 working days, and offer expedited service in urgent situations. Quite simply, we hit our delivery deadlines for pre-printed labels on a roll. In fact, more than 60% of our custom printed roll labels are shipped early.
3- Versatile Printing:
We have unrivaled versatility in fixed asset tag and roll label printing. In addition to offering four color flexographic printing, which is fairly rare, we offer hot stamp printing. Sometimes there are better alternatives than labels printed on a roll, and we provide digital printing and screen printing on a wide variety of substrate. We even manufacture etched, engraved, or metal photo custom metal asset tags. We do any fabrication, such as laminating, die cutting, and kiss cutting in house. The typical manufacture of pre-printed “sticky” labels on a roll can’t match the versatility and precision of Data Graphics. Whatever you need out of your metal asset tag and custom roll label printer, we can do it.
4- Great Values:
We are happy to offer bulk discounts and wholesale prices. With our versatility, we can discern the roll labels printing methodology that will give you the biggest bang for your buck. We consider the lifetime cost of your labels, and can save you significant money by avoiding replacement costs. Our products are a great value, because we don’t want to just maximize our profit on your next order; we want to be your custom printer for life.
5- The Trusted Printer:
We’ve built a reputation as the nation’s top custom printer. Our satisfied clients read like a “Who’s Who” of Fortune 1000 manufacturers, from GE to Siemens, to John Deere. We are the highest rated suppliers for Boeing (Gold Level) and Rockwell Collins (Premier Platinum) which are remarkably elite ratings. Our clients won’t trust their brand to a low quality printer. Each of the thousands of custom printed labels on a roll, overlays, and nameplates that we manufacture meets the same high standards as if they were going on a nuclear submarine or the International Space Station. (Yes, we have custom labels there, too.) We won’t risk our reputation on anything less than the best custom printed roll labels.
6- Not Too Small to Be Your Roll Label Printer:
We’re just the right size to fulfill your all your printing needs – neither too small nor too large. We are large enough to have world class capabilities, with the ideal mix of the latest and greatest machines, to handle any of your custom printing projects. We offer four color flexographic printing and 2 color hot stamping of roll labels. We can even embed QR/barcodes on your custom printed, self-adhesive labels on a roll.
7- Not Too Big to Be Your Roll Label Printer:
Printing labels is not our top priority, however. You, our clients, are priority one. In spite of our impressive capabilities, we are still small enough that each client in the Data Graphics family matters to us. Your success is important, so we go the extra mile for our clients. We want to be your life-long label printer.

Design Guide
How to Get the Best Labels Printed in a Roll: A Design Guide for Custom Printed Roll Labels
There are five important considerations when designing your custom roll label:
1- What is the purpose of your roll label? There is a big difference between, on the one hand, colorful branding labels printing on a roll, or special event foil labels, and on the other hand decals for internal use, or barcoded asset tags. Do you need disposable, roll labels printing for packaging? Or do you need durable asset tags fabricated to last for years? The adhesives and substrate (materials) we use for your custom labels will be effected by the answer to these questions. Are there special requirement we must meet, such as MIL- STD 130-n, UL 969, or PDGQ2? We have decades of experience manufacturing custom industrial decals to meet these standards, and know all the tricks for quick and easy compliance.
2- What information does each roll of labels need to convey? Will the decal have scannable QR/barcodes? Do you need a serial number on each custom printed, self-adhesive label on a roll? Is the decal purely decorative and need to be eye-catching? For variable data, hot stamp printing would be the logical choice. Digitally printed label sheets or metalphoto ® custom asset tags are also good options. Do you need color printing on roll labels? If so, flexographic (Flexo) four color custom roll label printing, or digitally printed sheet decals would be logical choices.
3- What size does the label need to be? Does the roll of labels need to fit into a specific labeling machine? If so, size and orientation matters. For most shipping or product ID decals, we suggest starting with a 4×6 or 2×3 labels roll and scaling up or down depending on the project. For barcode/QR code asset inventory labels we suggest starting with a 1×2 labels roll, and scaling up or down depending on the project. For very small labels where the finest of detail is necessary, we suggest metalphoto, due to its extremely high resolution.
4- Where are the custom industrial labels going to be used? Obviously, the surface we adhere to effects the adhesive we choose. It may also effect the substrate we choose. If your decals are going to be exposed to the elements, a protective laminate coat may be required. For a truly durable label, it may be wiser to go with etched, engraved, or metalphoto nameplates. We offer specialized printing options to ensure that your industrial decals survive every environment — UV exposure, saltwater, intense cold or heat, corrosive chemicals, impact or abrasion.
5- What substrate would you prefer for your roll of labels? Roll labels can be printed on an enormous variety of substrate, including BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene), polyesters (like Mylar), polycarbonates (like Lexan), vinyls, papers, and polyimide. There are many options when picking the best substrate for your project. Please call our helpful team of experts at 800-639-4316 for a free consultation.
Get the Best Roll of Labels: Custom Design Tips
- Use Our Online Design Tool
Our online design tool makes it easy to change the colors for your custom roll label printing, align and scale the design, and text of your custom label, etc. Our handy tool empowers you to create professional designs.
- Design Your Decals with Color In Mind
Our hot stamping machine does two color printing on roll labels. Our Flexo machine is a four color label printer. (Many competitors’ Flexo machines are only a one or two color roll label printer.) To create photo-quality images and full-color decals, we must use digital printing, which creates pre-printed decals on a sheet, rather than a pre-printed label on a roll. Unlike most competitors, who are limited to the Pantone pallet, our skilled Flexo technicians can custom match any color you desire. Custom colors are fine. - The Measurement and Orientation of Your Roll of Labels
If you will be using automated machines to apply your roll of labels, size and orientation can make a huge difference. Standard labeling machines typically have a 3″ core for the roll of labels they dispense. If your machine has a non-standard core or a maximum size (such as a 6 inch exterior diameter) it is best to notify your custom roll label printers of your specific requirements. This ensures you get the correct size for your custom roll label printing. What size is best for your custom printed roll labels? A custom 4×6 or 2×3 labels roll is very common, and we have pre-existing dies in these and many other sizes. The orientation of your pre-printed label on the roll is also important. If you want your pre-printed label to be oriented face up, face down, right or left for easiest applications, make sire your custom roll label printers know. This is an easy adjustment for a custom roll label printer to make, but is too often overlooked. Those who print roll labels are sometimes called a “roll to roll label printer” because we have the tools to quickly and easily move labels to a new roll and thus change orientation. - Use High Resolution Images for your Custom Roll Label Printing
Only use high resolution images for your custom designed roll of labels. This will ensure that your roll of labels has a clean, professional look. JPEG is preferred.
- Incorporate Your Logo Into Your Roll of Labels
Regardless of if you are looking for a 2×3 labels roll for shipping and packaging, oversized custom printed roll labels for product identification, hot stamped barcodes, or serialized custom printed labels on a roll we recommend featuring your logo prominently. Ideally, your logo will catch the eye and stand out from other text or images. Putting it near the top-center of your roll of labels for the most impact. - Consider a Border When Printing Roll Labels
Labels printed on a roll don’t have to have borders, but more often than not, clients who don’t incorporate a border into their design wish they had. For smaller designs, such as a 1×2, and a 2×3 labels roll, this can be especially helpful in drawing attention to the sticker. Depending on your design, a simple border can give your roll labels printing a more polished, professional look. - Understand Regulations Regarding Printing Roll Labels
There are a surprising number of rules and regulations regarding industrial labing. We are accustomed to meeting a wide variety of UL, military, and government regulations, including MIL-STD 130 n, UL 969, PGDQ2, and ASTM B-209-10. Please call our team of experienced professionals, so we can help you navigate these regulations.
Flexo
Flexographic Pre-Printed Labels on a Roll
The Flexo Process – Vivid, Four Color Roll Labels Printing
Flexo is the most challenging of methodologies for roll label printers. Each label custom cylinder fabricated for each color of the roll label. This cylinder transfers ink to the substrate. Each color is dried before proceeding to the next cylinder. Roll label printers recognize that Flexo printing is more art than science. Minute adjustments to the cylinder’s alignment allow the roll label printers to adjust registration. To get consistent and uniform coverage for each color, roll label printers adjust the pressuren, and therefore the amount of ink transferred with each swipe. Since we have a four color roll label printer, that means four sets of precise adjustments to tension and registration for each roll. Fortunately, we also have Jen and Alisa, with more than three decades of printing experience between them. They have described themselves as “anal retentive” (we prefer the term detail oriented) and make sure that your roll of labels meets the highest of standards. Our Flexo four color roll label printer can laminate, for an optional protective coat on each roll label. The Flexo roll label printer also has a custom trim carrier, to die cut each roll label to your exact specifications, and perforate carrier to perforate or cut the underlayment to whatever size you desire. We can do print rolls of labels up to 5300 feet long. That’s a lot of stickers, but when using the full four color label printer, it takes 70 feet of underlayment just to complete the run through the machine. Fleo excels at large volume printing. Obviously, we can do thousands of feet of printing roll labels per hour, once the tension and registration are correct. Cleaning and maintain a flexographic multi-color roll label printer is a bit of a nightmare. Jen and Alisa take great pride in the roll label printers, cleaning and maintaining them after every run. There will be no delays on your project due to machine maintenance. Even our cheapest roll label printing on Flexo look cleaner and crisper than the more expensive options from other custom roll label printers. The end result is the highest quality, most eye-catching color roll label printing for your unique project.
Advantages of Flexo Custom Roll Label Printing
-
COLOR: We can custom match virtually any color, and flexo roll label printing creates vivid colors and good coverage. We can purchase substrate in virtually any base color as well. Data Graphics can four color print roll labels. Many competitors can only one or two color print roll labels.
- COST: Buying custom roll labels wholesale, direct from the manufacturer is the best way to get cheap, high quality, roll labels printing. Once Flexo plates are purchased, the unit cost is negligible, making for incredibly cost-effective roll labels printing. It is the best choice for roll labels printing for large or recurring orders.
- SUBSTRATE VERSATILITY: A wide variety of substrate can be used, including BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylen), polyesters (like Mylar), polycarbonates (like Lexan), vinyls, Tyvek, paper, and polyimide.
- FABRICATION: We can create specialty shapes for your custom printed roll labels. Custom die cutting is quite common, and unusual shapes are no problem with Flexo custom roll label printing.
Limitations of Flexo Custom Roll Label Printing
- VARIABLE DATA: Flexo cannot manufacture UID/QR/barcoded/sequentially numbered labels on a roll.
- DURABILITY: Even with a protective laminate coat, a Flexo roll of labels is not particularly durable. For truly rugged labeling, we have a wide variety of custom printed metal labels which are better options.
- SIZE: Flexographic printing is limited in size to printing 6.25″ by 12″. That makes Flexo a great choice for the most common 1×2, 4×6, and 2×3 labels roll, but larger labels require a different methodology.
- FOIL LABELS: To print roll labels with foil finishes, hot stamping is the only methodology to use.
Hot Stamp
Hot Stamped Printing of Roll Labels
The Hot Stamp Process – Custom Printed, Self-Adhesive Labels on a Roll
A hot stamp roll label printer creates foil roll labels by heat transferring colored foil on to the substrate. We have a huge variety of substrate to choose from in virtually any color and finish, including translucent and transparent materials. Though the traditional foil stickers are stamped in metallic silvers and golds, the foil comes in scores of colors and finishes from white to black. We actually have two hot stamp roll label printers – a traditional NewFoil machine and a Zebra roll label printer. The only important difference is that the Zebra roll label printer does variable data printing on roll labels. If you want serialized, QR codes or barcodes, on custom printed labels on a roll, the Zebra printer is the right choice. A hot stamp roll label printer is heated to between 255 and 300 degrees. The temperature and pressure are adjusted by our experienced staff depending on substrate and foil, to get a crisp, clean thermal transfer. When printing roll labels with a hot stamp, both the design, and the settings are custom. Fortunately, we have Jen and Alisa, with more than three decades of roll label printing experience. Fortunately, we also have Jen and Alisa, with more than three decades of custom roll label printing experience between them. They have described themselves as “anal retentive” (we prefer the term detail oriented) and make sure that your roll of labels meets the highest of standards. Our hot stamp two color roll label printer can laminate, for an optional protective coat on each roll label. It also has a die cutter, to cut each roll label to your exact specifications. Fully optimized, we can do about 5000 labels printed on a roll each hour. Maintaining and cleaning a hot stamp, multi-color roll label printer is intensive, as they can be a little persnickety. Jen and Alisa take a great deal of pride in the roll label printers, maintaining and cleaning them after every run. Having a back-up roll labels printer is also a bonus. This means a glitch on one machine will not delay your project. The end result is the highest quality hot stamped custom roll label printing for your custom project.
Advantages of Hot Stamped Custom Roll Label Printing
- VARIABLE DATA: Hot Stamping can create UID/QR/barcoded custom printed, self-adhesive labels on a roll.
- FOIL PRINT ROLL LABELS:Only hot stamping can create foil, custom printed roll labels
- COST: Buying custom labels wholesale, direct from the manufacturer is the best way to get high quality, roll labels printing. Set-up costs are low, making hot stamping a good choice for roll labels printing for small to medium-sized runs.
- VERSATILE SUBSTRATE: A wide variety of substrate can be used, including BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene), polyesters (like Mylar), polycarbonates (like Lexan), vinyls, Tyvek, papers, and polyimide.
- COLOR SELECTION: We offer a wide range of colors and finishes both in the substrate and the foil print. We offer 2 color printing on roll labels. Many competitors are one color printing on roll labels.
- FABRICATION: We can create specialty shapes for your custom printed roll labels. Custom die cutting is quite common, and unusual shapes are no problem with hot stamp custom roll label printing.
Limitations of Hot Stamped Custom Roll Label Printing
- DURABILITY: Even with a protective laminate coat, a hot stamped roll of labels is not particularly durable. For truly rugged labeling, we have a wide variety of custom printed metal labels which are better options.
- SIZE: Hot Stamping is limited in size to printing 6″ by 6″. That makes hot stamping a great choice for the most common 1×2, 4×6, and 2×3 labels roll, but larger labels require a different methodology.
- MULTI_COLOR PRINTING: Hot stamping is limited to 2 colors. We are a 3 and 4 color label printer using flexography, which might be a better choice, depending on the specifics of your project.
